So there I was, perusing my newest issue of Writer’s Digest and I came across a photo contest page. I recognized the picture immediately, as it was the one contest I had entered.
My heart stopped. I saw my name in print. I thought I was mistaken. It couldn’t be me, right? WRONG!!!! My prompt was one of ten chosen from over 900 entrants. I am number 9 on the Writer’s Digest Your Story Contest #36!!! My name is in WRITER’S DIGEST magazine!!!!!!!
I screamed “Ohmygod! Ohmygod!!!” and I raced up the stairs to tell our friend Jeff, who happened to be the only other adult in the house at the time. He thought one of the kids was dying. Oops. My bad…
They did spell my name incorrectly. My name is April Hawks. Not Hawkes. A small matter, but it is important to me.
Here is the page with the winners. Contest. Yup. I am number 9.
This will not be the last time you see my name there. ๐

That’s great, April! Well done! I’ve never won a contest in my life and certainly nothing to do with writing (because I’m too chicken to enter, probably hahaha). But seriously good work. Look forward to reading your blog ๐

Thank you so much! Honestly, I entered with NO expectation that I would make the cut. If for no other reason than to say that you have tried, I strongly encourage that you enter at least once. ๐ I look forward to reading your blog as well. B)
